With the Rays facing Red Sox lefty Wade Miley, it's possible Kiermaier's absence from the lineup has nothing to do with the illness that bothered him over the weekend. On the other hand, Tampa Bay is using Rene Rivera as the designated hitter, which is far from optimal even with the platoon advantage.
