Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Kevin Newman is not in the lineup on Monday for the series opener with the Reds. After a blistering Spring Training in which he slashed .606/.641/.788 in 13 games, Newman has come back down to earth to start the regular season as he is just 3-for-13 with one RBI and a strikeout through his first three games. This is likely just a day off for Newman, as Erik Gonzalez will get the start at short today and bat fifth against Cincinnati starter Jose De Leon.
