Kennedy worked six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out five in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Pirates. Kennedy was definitely a tough-luck loser Friday night, as both runs surrendered by the Padres' righty came in the first inning. Despite this solid effort, Kennedy continues to struggle with command since the All-Star break. The 29-year-old hurler has managed to put up a decent 3.68 ERA even while issuing 16 walks and holding a 1.55 WHIP across his last 22 innings. However, if he is unable to improve his control, the runs are sure to follow at some point. Kennedy's next start is scheduled for Thursday in St. Louis.
