Kelly allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out four in seven innings for Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday, the Providence Journal reports.
Kelly was able to locate his fastball with more consistency and integrate his secondary pitches more strategically -- two items on his to-do list while he's pitching in Pawtucket. But there are caveats to his outing: the opponent, the Gwinnett Braves, don't have many elite prospects, and they are in the bottom half of many offensive categories in the International League. He also didn't have command of his curve ball. An encouraging outing, for sure, but there's still work ahead for Kelly. He needs to command and mix over a longer stretch of time.
