Josh Hamilton will miss 6-to-8 weeks with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb. Hamilton will have surgery to repair the ligament after an MRI showed the tear on Wednesday. He injured the thumb sliding into first base during Tuesday's game. Outfielder J.B. Shuck was recalled to take Hamilton's roster spot.

The ulnar collateral ligament of the thumb runs along the ulnar side of the metacarpo-phalangeal joint of the thumb.
