Joel Pineiro has elected free agency. He was shut down in July after having surgery to repair a SLAP tear in the labrum of his right shoulder. Pineiro had posted a 2.96 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 19/1 K/BB ratio over 24 1/3 innings at two minor league levels before the injury. If he's healthy enough and chooses to continue his career, he'll likely have to accept an incentive-laden minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.
