Joe Saunders took a shutout into the ninth inning Tuesday, but he had to settle for a 6-1 complete-game victory. Jesus Guzman hit a solo homer in the ninth to ruin his shutout. Saunders allowed six hits and a walk, striking out four. He needed just 99 pitches to put away the Padres. The quality start was his eighth in 10 outings going back to June 1, while he has also managed to complete seven innings of work seven times in his past 10 starts. He'll take a 3.63 ERA and 1.31 WHIP into his outing in Los Angeles this weekend.
