Joe Mauer went 3-for-5 with an RBI in the Twins' 12-inning loss to the Dodgers on Thursday. Mauer has been a lightning rod for controversy in the Minnesota media as some think his .349 slugging percentage and seven RBI are emblematic of an unproductive first baseman. Mauer, however, is now batting .292 with a .397 on-base percentage which should ease some of the concern. They're not wrong, though, that a first baseman should be able to post a higher SLG than OBP.
