Joe Frisaro of MLB.com was told by "two well-connected sources" that the Marlins consider Giancarlo Stanton "as a building block, not a trade chip." In fact, one source described recent trade speculation as "laughable and lies." While the Marlins would love to keep Stanton if the price is right, indications are that he isn't ready to accept a long-term deal with the club. That situation could come to a head eventually, as the young slugger will be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. But the Marlins have no sense of urgency to move him and it would take a substantial offer to get them to bite.
