Jason Vargas was perfect for four innings Sunday in the Mariners' 5-4 victory over the Padres. Vargas wasn't backed by anything close to the Mariners' usual defense today, nor did he have Safeco helping him along. Still, he worked his magic, retiring 12 straight to start the game. He'll be the Mariners' No. 2 starter this season.
