Jason Vargas took a shutout into the ninth before giving up a solo homer Monday in the Royals' 4-2 win over the Rays. Vargas was pulled immediately after Ben Zobrist's homer, so his line had him allowing one run in eight-plus innings. Had he managed to finish up, it would have been his sixth career shutout. Still, earning his first win as a Royal was a nice consolation prize.
