Jason Vargas (arm) will throw a three-inning simulated game on Saturday. Vargas, who has been sidelined since mid-June when he underwent emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from his left armpit, could be sent out on a rehab assignment immediately afterwards if all goes well. He tossed a successful simulated game on Thursday. "The sim game will give us a better indication," skipper Mike Scioscia said. "He's going to need at least those two. We'll see where he is after that."
