Jason Vargas (appendectomy) will throw a simulated game on Saturday. Vargas didn't feel quite right during a bullpen session Wednesday, so the Royals are pumping the brakes on him a bit rather than activating him to start Sunday. He's not expected to need a rehab assignment, so Vargas could conceivably rejoin the rotation sometime next week.
