Jason Bay was scratched from Thursday's game against the Nationals due to flu-like symptoms. Scott Hairston will play left field and bat sixth. Bay hasn't appeared in a major league game since April 23. He was activated from the disabled list Wednesday but has battling an illness for most of this week.
