James Shields told Jim Bowden on Sirius XM that he hasn't had any discussions with the Royals about a contract extension, but is open to staying in Kansas City. The 31-year-old right-hander went 13-9 with a 3.15 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 196/68 K/BB ratio over a league-high 228 2/3 innings during his first season with the Royals. He's slated to hit free agency after the 2014 season, so if the Royals are unable to work out an extension before the season, he could become a candidate to be traded at the deadline.
