James Shields gave up five runs in seven innings in a no-decision against the Mariners on Friday. Big Game James was more Perseverance Game James on this occasion. He didn't have his best stuff on Friday night, but was able to scrap his way through seven innings. He allowed five runs on nine hits, striking out three. The big blows coming in the form of home runs by Mike Zunino and Logan Morrison. The Royals offense put up an actual Big Game, clawing out of a five-run hole and saving Shields from the loss, though the team eventually fell in the ninth to lose 7-5. Despite the stumble, Shields remains a solid fantasy option.
