James Shields (arm) played catch Monday and expects to be fine for his next scheduled start on Friday. Shields has some swelling after taking a line drive off his pitching arm during Sunday's start. He remained in that game, though, and is in danger of being scratched Friday, especially if the Royals are still fighting for a playoff spot at that point.
