Bitsko, the 24th overall pick in the 2020 first-year player draft, signed for a $3 million bonus Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The deal was for slightly above the $2.8 million slot value, making it a particularly successful transaction for the 18-year-old. Bitsko immediately met with Rays director of pitching development Dewey Robinson to structure a throwing program he can begin implementing in the expected absence of a 2020 minor-league campaign. Bitsko, who already boasts a high 90s fastball and imposing 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame, confirmed he'd cut back on his throwing leading up to the draft, but he'll likely be ramping things up now that he's got some long-term security.
