Hoying will start in center field and bat ninth Wednesday against the Rays.
EDGE Analysis
The Rangers have yet to use Joey Gallo in the outfield since Adrian Beltre came off the disabled list earlier this week, but it's expected that he'll gradually see more time in left field with Beltre and Mike Napoli serving as the primary corner infielders. That will result in Hoying and Delino DeShields jockeying for playing time in center field, and for the time being, it looks as though Hoying may have the edge. While he doesn't provide much of an impact at the plate, Hoying is regarded as a stronger defender at the position than DeShields, who hasn't helped his case for regular at-bats by slumping at the plate of late. DeShields is on the bench for the third time in four games and may only receive consistent starts against left-handed pitching until Carlos Gomez (hamstring) returns from the DL.
