Hoying, who was recalled from Triple-A Round on Tuesday, could see regular reps in center field while he remains with the Rangers, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports. "We are going to let [Hoying] play and see if we can get him going," manager Jeff Banister said.
EDGE Analysis
There was some thought that the Rangers might have Delino DeShields move from left to center field with Carlos Gomez (hamstring) ruled out for 4-to-6 weeks, but it looks like Hoying will instead get the first crack at filling the void in center, at least against right-handed pitching. Hoying went 0-for-3 with a strikeout while batting out of the ninth spot in the lineup during Tuesday's win over the Phillies, and doesn't carry much fantasy intrigue after slashing .242/.336/.477 across 146 plate appearances with Round Rock prior to his promotion. That said, Hoying is regarded as a plus defender in center field, which might be enough to afford him consistent starts at that position over the likes of DeShields and Ryan Rua, who are better suited for corner-outfield duties.
