Holliday (thumb) is expected to hit in a simulated game later this week, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.
EDGE Analysis
Holliday took batting practice on the field Monday, less than a month after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured thumb. He hit some towering shots during batting practice and it seems Holliday convinced the training staff that he's ready to step in against live pitching. If he responds well to the sim game, Holliday could be activated shortly thereafter, but he may remain somewhat limited initially upon reinstatement from the DL.
