Marmolejos has been able to hit regularly at a facility in the Arizona area with several teammates while spring training has been suspended, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
EDGE Analysis
The non-roster invitee had been making a push for a roster spot before Cactus League play was paused, and the fact he's been able to continue honing his swing during the shutdown certainly helps his cause. So, too, does the high likelihood of expanded rosters and a practice squad each team is expected to be afforded for an abbreviated 2020 season, a development that would save manager Scott Servais the trouble of having to make a decision between the promising Tim Lopes or Marmolejos, for example. Given that Marmolejos has remained in the Arizona area, he should also be a participant in the informal workouts the Mariners will begin hosting at their re-opened Peoria spring training complex early this week.
