Hicks (forearm) has been able to take soft tosses, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Hicks was placed on the DL Sunday, and this is his first real sign of progress since the injury. However, even if he remain on schedule in his recovery, it is possible Hicks doesn't have a starting outfield job upon his return. It won't be apparent what his role is until he returns from the DL, so the priority for Hicks at this point will be getting healthy.
