Brown's playing time in the corner outfield had already been trending down after Oakland's recent acquisition of Starling Marte from Miami, and now Brown will lose out on a spot on the 26-man active roster. Though he posted an excellent .901 OPS across sporadic playing time in July, Brown's body of work for the season has been much less impressive (.199/.277/.435 slash line, 27.2 percent strikeout rate in 213 plate appearances).
