Headley was given a day of rest Friday, getting the day off from the club's workouts and spring training game, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
It doesn't appear as though the third baseman is dealing with any ailments in particular, but manager Joe Girardi decided to give a couple of his veterans a full day off early in the spring as a precautionary measure. Headley is coming off another disappointing season at the plate, slashing .253/.331/.385 while striking out in over 25% of his at-bats. He doesn't face much competition at the hot corner in the spring, but if Headley's struggles continue in 2017, the Yankees may eventually look for another solution at third.
