Hammel (9-9) held the Rays scoreless over 5.2 innings, giving up seven hits while walking four and striking out two in the victory on Tuesday. Hammel finally gets his first win as a member of the A's. It certainly wasn't a pretty performance, as evidenced by the 11 base runners allowed in just 5.2 innings, but in the end he turned in his best outing since joining the team. The main threat came when the Rays' loaded the bases with two outs in the second, but Hammel would get Kevin Kiermaier to ground out to end the inning. Through five starts with the A's, Hammel has compiled a 7.15 ERA, numbers that he'll be looking to improve upon when he takes on the Twins in his next scheduled start.
