Hamilton (shoulder) could return as the designated hitter as early as Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reports. Hamilton, who will miss his 11th straight game Monday night, was very encouraged by a recent workout and believes he may be ready to return Wednesday. "Hopefully this is a breakthrough day for him as far as his health," Manager Mike Scioscia said. "His workout was incredible. He was running well and swinging the bat great. There's no doubt he's close to being able to DH." Scioscia indicated that Hamilton will still be evaluated on a day-to-day basis. Even if Hamilton does return Wednesday, it would likely be at least another week before he's able to play the field, as he's yet to resume throwing. "There's no pain it's just a little sore and tight but it's all good," Hamilton said. "It's definitely moving in the right direction. If I do tomorrow what I did today and it feels good the next day, I wouldn't see a problem playing Wednesday night, at least as a DH."
