Guthrie signed a minor league deal with the Marlins on Monday and will report to Triple-A, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 37-year-old opted out of his deal with the Padres earlier this month, and he'll now join the Marlins in hopes of reinvigorating his career. Guthrie made 30 appearances, including 24 starts, for the Royals last season but struggled in 11 Triple-A appearances for San Diego, amassing a 6.60 ERA and 1.57 WHIP across 60 innings. Expectations will be low in Miami, but if Guthrie is able to string together a few solid starts at Triple-A, he could work his way into a spot start or two at the major league level.
