Gio Gonzalez pitched well in a losing effort against the Yankees on Friday, allowing three runs on five hits over six innings of work while walking two and striking out eight. It was the sixth time of the season that Gonzalez has struck out at least eight in a game. Both of the runs he allowed came across in the second inning, on a pair of RBI singles from Alex Rodriguez and Nick Swisher. With the loss, Gonzalez falls to 8-3 on the season, though he still owns a remarkable 2.52 ERA and 97/32 K/BB ratio. His strikeout total trials only Justin Verlander and Stephen Strasburg for the major league lead. He'll look to get back in the win column when he squares off against the Rays at home on Thursday.
