Gibson gave up one run over six innings with seven strikeouts in Thursday's spring training loss to Tampa Bay. Gibson has 17 strikeouts in 19.2 innings this spring and credits an improved change-up. "When I'm executing, I can go to it on 2-1, 2-2, 3-2 counts. I think that's going to help me out a lot," he told the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Gibson is having a strong spring (2.75 ERA) as there are reports he had increased velocity and he's also seen an increased strikeout rate after he had just a 4.9 K/9 IP last season. While it's always hard to put too much stock in spring training stats, there are reasons to think Gibson could improve significantly in his second full season in the majors.
