Gerrit Cole allowed only a two-run home run in his five innings of work but took the loss against the Cardinals in Game 5 of the NLDS on Wednesday. Cole was nearly as good as he was in a Game 2 win, allowing just three hits and a walk on the night. But he made one two-out mistake that David Freese deposited in the visitor's bullpen for a two-run home run. He was lifted for a pinch-hitter after five innings and 75 pitches. Unfortunately for Cole, the Pirates managed only one run off Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright en route to the loss. Still, for his first major league postseason, the 23-year-old showed very well in two starts.
