Gentry will serve as a reserve outfielder in a role similar to that of Joey Rickard, while Hyun Soo Kim, Adam Jones and Seth Smith will be the presumed starters. The veteran was once a threat to run, stealing 25 bases at the Triple-A level for Oakland in 2015, but is unlikely to see many opportunities on the basepaths this year. Instead, his speed could help Gentry see reps as a late-game defensive replacement in the outfield.
