The move allows the Rays to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Alex Cobb, who was activated from the 60-day DL as a corresponding move. After posting a decent season for the Rays in 2015, Geltz had a 6.86 ERA in 21 innings prior to being designated for assignment.
