Gavin Floyd hurled seven shutout innings, scattering five hits and no walks against the Twins on Tuesday. He struck out nine in the victory, shaving his ERA from 5.20 to 4.80. Prior to Floyd's start on June 20, he had gone six straight outings without a quality start, a horrific one-month stretch in which he resembled a batting practice coach. Since that time, he's cut his ERA by nearly a run. The talent has always been there, as has the inconsistency. One would need Biff's Sports Almanac from the future to know how Floyd will pitch through September.
