Gausman didn't factor into the decision Friday versus the Tigers but turned in a quality start, giving up three earned runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out seven.

The righty turned in a strong effort despite an elevated pitch count, notching 14 swinging strikes overall. Gausman did consistently fall behind early in the count, recording first-pitch strikes on only 14 of the 27 hitters he faced. The 25-year-old had not given up an earned run prior to Friday since Aug. 18 against the Astros, a stretch that encompassed three starts and a total of 19 innings. Despite a 7-10 record he's sporting a respectable 3.61 ERA, along with 155 whiffs in 152 innings. Gausman will look to get back on the winning track when he takes on the Rays next Thursday.
