Gausman (0-1) took the loss despite holding the Rays to one run on three hits and two walks over five innings Monday night.
EDGE Analysis
Gausman was nasty but wild in the minors as he rehabbed his injured shoulder -- he struck out 19 but walked five in three starts before receiving the call-up for Monday's start. He had similar issues Monday, as he walked two and put on a batter with a hit-by-pitch, but Gausman induced 11 swinging strikes to notch seven strikeouts and erase any rallies before they could snowball. Gausman's bigger issue in his career has been home runs -- he gave up 17 in just 112.1 innings last year, resulting in a 1.4 HR/9 and 4.25 ERA. When he kept the ball in the yard in 2014 (7 HR in 113.1 innings), Gausman posted a 3.57 ERA in 20 starts.
