The Astros need all the help they can get in terms of offensive production behind the plate, and while Gattis has never been mistaken for a solid defensive catcher, the team must think he can be a net positive catching a few times each week. This will greatly increase his value in most formats, as catcher eligibility moves him from fringe option to a potentially above average option at a scarce position. Of course, he'll have to show the Astros he can still catch, but if everything goes according to plan, he could be up later this month splitting time between catcher and DH. Tony Sipp should be off the paternity list Saturday as a corresponding move.
