Gant fired three perfect innings in Saturday's 2-2 Grapefruit League tie with the Braves, striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
Gant dominated his former team, needing only 31 pitches 22 of which he threw for strikes, to get through his three frames. The outing served as Gant's longest appearance of spring and was yet another step towards a potential roster spot for the 24-year-old righty, who now has allowed just one earned run on three hits over eight innings, and generated a sparkling 1.13 ERA and 0.38 WHIP. "He's really opening some eyes," said Cardinals bench coach David Bell, who managed in place of an ill Mike Matheny. "I know he's had success in the past, but I think he's really putting himself in position where we're taking a close look at him. Today he was very sharp, located his fastball real well. It was a big day for him."
