Frias was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles News Group reports.

The Dodgers decided to go with Ross Stripling as their fifth starter in the rotation so Frias, the other contender for that spot, received the inevitable demotion to the minors to start 2016. Frias will be in the rotation at Triple-A Oklahoma City for the time being. That said, with Frias' 77.7 innings pitched in the majors last year, he's got the experience to be a reliable call up at some point this season if one of the Dodgers rotation members goes down with an injury.
