Freeman cleared waivers, was assigned to Triple-A Tacoma, and will report back to spring training as a non-roster invitee, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Freeman remains in the Mariners' organization after being DFA'd Wednesday to make room for RHP Chase De Jong. The 29-year-old will have a chance to impress in Cactus League play, but will likely begin the season at Triple-A. Acquired off waivers from Arizona, Freeman put together a nice stint with Tacoma last season, batting .305/.378/.448 in 26 games.
