Free agent Chien-Ming Wang pitched six scoreless innings Friday as Chinese Taipei beat Australia 4-1 to kick off the World Baseball Classic. Auditioning for a major league job, Wang allowed four hits, walked none and struck out two. Thanks to three double plays, he managed to get through six innings without exceeding the first-round, 65-pitch limit. Wang's velocity wasn't particularly good tonight; the stadium gun showed him at 82-83 mph, though it was almost surely slow. Wang averaged 91 mph with his fastball with the Nationals last season.
