Gilbert (0-1) took the 4-2 loss against Cleveland in his major-league debut Thursday, allowing four runs and five hits with five strikeouts in four innings.
EDGE Analysis
It was a mixed bag for Gilbert's first start as the four runs and two home runs isn't optimal, but five strikeouts and zero walks are encouraging for the young starter's potential. More run support can be expected as Gilbert lines up to potentially face the White Sox in his next start.

Have noticed how baseball now calls the "out"pitch in the slider or split finger fastball. My team, the Mariners, do not throw any sliders sans Graveman. They all tend to throw fastballs and curveballs, no wonder they get hammered when it counts, no out pitch. Gilbert did not impress as he also has just two pitches and they were fastball that doesn't move and a looping curveball that got deposited two times by Indian hitters. He hung in there though as best he could since the hapless and hitless M's did their thing by not hitting anything in fact getting no hit for 8 innings!!!!!!!!!
