Farmer was added to the Dodgers' 40-man roster on Friday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Farmer is a catcher also capable of playing third base, the kind of depth the Dodgers like to have in their system. Adding him to the 40-man roster protects him from the Rule 5 draft, but he's still probably at least a year away from the majors judging from his .256/.323/.395 line at Double-A Tulsa, unless the Dodgers run into injury problems at catcher.
