Eickhoff was removed from Wednesday's contest against the Braves with a trainer in the third inning after an apparent drop in velocity, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Although it wasn't obvious as to what was plaguing Eickhoff, the fact that he left with a trainer, and experienced a dip in velocity, is concerning to say the least. Over the course of the season, the right-hander has been losing heat on his fastball, as it had dropped from 91 mph in April/May, to below 90 in August, while averaging about 88 during Wednesday's brief time on the mound, per The Morning Call's Stephen Gross. Jesen Therrien entered the game in his place, while further updates regarding Eickhoff's condition are sure to appear before the end of the game. During two-plus innings on the rubber against the Braves, Eickhoff gave up five runs on six hits.
