Edgin's velocity is down for the second straight camp, prompting manager Terry Collins' for the player and team's lefty relief options, ESPN New York reports. Edgin, who was hit hard again Monday, is throwing his fastball in 88-91 mph range, down from the usual consistent 92-93 range. Because there are few good options available, the Mets likely won't send him down to the minors as they did last year. New York opted not to sign any lefty relievers to a major-league deal this offseason, taking Sean Gilmartin in the Rule 5 draft and inking Scott Rice to a minor-league deal to go along with farmhands Dario Alvarez and Jack Leathersich. None have pitched well, possibly leaving a huge hole in the team's pen.
