Cannon was staked with a rare 5-0 lead and carried it into the fifth but three walks in the inning led to a two-out grand slam by Kerry Carpenter that spoiled Cannon's final line. Despite the disappointing end to his outing, the White Sox later provided four additional insurance runs and Cannon was able to escape with his fifth win in 15 decisions.
