Duffy (shoulder) is expected to make two or three rehab starts with Triple-A Omaha before rejoining the Royals, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports. Duffy will kick off his rehab assignment Tuesday and will likely be capped at around 50 pitches during the outing. Manager Ned Yost indicated the team planned on having a rotation spot available for Duffy when he returns from the DL, with Jeremy Guthrie and Chris Young seemingly representing the most likely candidates to lose out on their current starting roles. Duffy has underperformed this season with a 5.87 ERA and 1.69 WHIP over 38.1 innings, but the Royals believe that the time off to address the shoulder issue could allow him to reemerge as the serviceable mid-rotation arm the team was banking on heading into the season.
