Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said rookie shortstop Chris Owings will receive playing time in September.
"You want to find out what he can do for sure," Gibson said. It's a frustratingly cryptic quote for fantasy owners, but NL-only owners should have already deciphered the obvious: If Owings draws any at-bats, he's well worth a roster spot. The 22-year-old was named Rookie of the Year of the Pacific Coast League after hitting .330 with an .841 OPS, 12 home runs, 81 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 125 games. Any playing time Owings receives is terrible news for starter Didi Gregorius, who is probably already looking in the rear-view mirror. This is a situation likely remedied by an offseason trade.
