Hand was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Tuesday, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.

Hand was eligible to return from the bereavement list, but the Blue Jays elected not to clear a spot for him on the active roster. It's quite the fall from grace for the veteran lefty, who has 126 saves to his name, including 21 this season. All of his saves this year came prior to being traded from Washington to Toronto. He's been quite poor as a Blue Jay, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) in 8.2 innings while striking out just five batters, though his past success means he still has a good chance of being claimed off waivers.
