David Ortiz requested $16.5 million and was offered $12.65 million by the Red Sox when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday. In other words, the Red Sox are only offering him a slight raise from his $12.5 million salary last season. The 36-year-old slugger was poised to hit the free agent market this winter, but accepted the club's offer of arbitration last month.
